Scott Kanter

Scott Kanter is the lead attorney within the Hinshaw Estate Planning practice group and has been with the Hinshaw Law Firm since 2007.  Mr. Kanter began his legal career in 1998 as a civil litigator representing injured railroad workers under the Federal Employers Liability Act.  Thereafter, he was employed as a Deputy District Attorney in Sacramento County where he tried in excess of twenty criminal jury trials and nearly thirty court trials.  Since that time, his legal practice has encompassed a broad spectrum of experience in civil/criminal litigation and trust and estate planning.

Mr. Kanter’s current practice focuses on trust and estate planning and litigation.  He walks his clients through the estate planning process to ensure that all of their important estate planning goals and objectives are achieved without unnecessary court costs and attorney’s fees.  He also helps individuals and families prepare highly personalized and comprehensive estate planning documents that will protect their loved ones’ inheritance from being lost to divorce, creditors, predators, lawsuits, and immaturity.  

He is a member of WealthCounsel which is a national association of about 1500 law firms and 2000 estate planning attorneys.  As a WealthCounsel member, Mr. Kanter has access to the collective wisdom and experience of these attorneys in meeting the needs of his clients.  WealthCounsel also offers continuing education which enables him to keep current on the latest estate planning opportunities and techniques for his clients.  He is also a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and is admitted to practice law in all California state and appellate courts, as well as the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of United States District Court.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society from University of California at Santa Barbara in 1994 and his law degree in 1998 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

Mr. Kanter is a Bay Area native who enjoys playing a variety of sports, hiking, backpacking and camping in the wilderness, as well as spending time with his wife and two children.
