Thomas E. Still

Tom Still has been a member of the Hinshaw Law Firm since 1988, and a partner since 1992.  His career is devoted to the defense of physicians, medical groups, public and private hospitals, nursing homes, and their staff in civil litigation and administrative proceedings.  From 1986 to 1988, he practiced in the area of general insurance defense.  

Mr. Still has handled innumerable cases involving a wide variety of medical and nursing issues.  He has expertise in defending cases alleging liability for professional negligence, wrongful death, elder abuse and dependent adult neglect, intentional torts and violations of civil rights.  He has successfully assisted nearly every type of medical specialist.  Mr. Still has worked extensively with medical specialists and expert consultants in both community and teaching hospital settings throughout the state.  

Mr. Still’s work has included the defense of public entities, including the County of Santa Clara and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.  He also represents the interests of health care providers in disciplinary actions initiated by the Medical Board of California and peer review proceedings undertaken by hospitals and medical groups.  

Mr. Still has lectured at hospital, physician and professional liability insurance industry events on topics including medical malpractice defense and risk management strategies for healthcare professionals.  

Mr. Still was born in Long Beach, California in 1960.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1982 and his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1986.  He is admitted to practice in all California trial and appellate courts, as well as the United States District Court, Northern District and Eastern Districts of California, and before the United State Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.  He is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the State Bar of California.  Mr. Still is an “AV” rated attorney.  

Tom and his wife Jennifer raised their two children, Julia and Connor, in Los Gatos and Menlo Park.  Julia is a senior at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  Connor is a sophomore at Princeton University.  Tom enjoys surfing, bicycling, swimming and time with his family.
