Douglas Haigh Reiniger

Douglas H. Reiniger serves as appellate counsel to Rosin Steinhagen Mendel. He regularly represents the firm’s clients on appeals, and frequently argues before the appellate courts of New York, including the Court of Appeals, as well as assisting the firm in a variety of other matters.

For almost 30 years, Doug has practiced Family Law and Adoption Law exclusively.  From 1969 to 1981, Doug worked as a child care worker and social worker at both foster care and adoption agencies. Doug joined with Ben Rosin in 1985, and they formed the Rosin & Reiniger, the predecessor firm to Rosin Steinhagen Mendel. As a social worker from 1969 to 1981, Doug had the opportunity to work with children, biological parents and foster parents. As an attorney, Doug has represented foster care and adoption agencies, children, biological parents and grandparents, foster parents and adoptive parents.

Doug has a B.A. in psychology (Iona College, 1970), a Master of Social Work degree from Fordham University (1974) and a law degree from Fordham University (1980). From 1990 to 1999, Doug was on the faculty of Columbia University School of Social Work, as associate professor and coordinator of their Law Minor Program, in conjunction with Columbia Law School.

Doug is a charter member and Past President of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA). He was on the Advisory Board of Directors of the New York State Foster and Adoptive Parents Association for ten years, and President of the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services Alumni Association Board of Directors. Doug is contributing author of Adoption Law & Practice, Adoption Law in New York, Adoption in the Twenty-First Century, and Lawyer’s Guide to Adoption. He has published articles in The New York Law Journal and New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Review. His biography is featured in Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in American Law.
